The Bergman Week film festival, which this year has the theme Horror: Between Night and Dawn<\/em>, will open with the Swedish horror film THE HOME<\/em> on June 23. This marks the long-awaited Swedish premiere of the film, which has already received international acclaim following its world premiere at South by Southwest in Austin. This past weekend, THE HOME<\/em> also received the award for Best European Film at its European premiere at the popular genre festival Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF). THE HOME<\/em>, directed by Mattias J. Skoglund and based on the novel by Mats Strandberg, will have its theatrical release across Sweden in the fall of 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The Home<\/em> has already become one of this year\u2019s most internationally buzzed-about Swedish films thanks to the way it transforms something safe and familiar into something truly terrifying. It proves that horror is an incredibly powerful genre, capable of saying something about real life. The Home<\/em> is the perfect film to open this year\u2019s Bergman Week, with its theme \u2018Between Night and Dawn\u2019,” says Jannike \u00c5hlund, chair of the Bergman Center on F\u00e5r\u00f6.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Home<\/em> is set in a nursing home where the residents begin to behave strangely at night. It follows Joel, who has finally managed to secure a place for his mother Monika, who has been left weakened and confused after a stroke. But once she moves in, her condition quickly worsens. And at night, something terrifying\u2014and all too familiar\u2014comes to haunt her.<\/p>\n

The Home<\/em> features a star-studded cast, with lead roles played by Philip Oros (Dogborn<\/em>), Anki Lid\u00e9n (Glowing Stars<\/em>), and Gizem Erdogan (Thin Blue Line<\/em>, Caliphate<\/em>). The film also features performances by Malin Levanon (Drifters<\/em>), Ayan Ahmed (Snabba Cash<\/em>), Lottie Ejebrant (The Charter Trip<\/em>), and Bengt C.W.
