About the movie

It is 1725, and Isaburo Sasahara is the most skilled swordsman in all of Japan. But when one of his sons gets involved in an argument between Isaburo’s daimyo and and his ex-concubine, both Isaburo and the son are ordered to commit seppuku. Samurai Rebellion is a story of honor, betrayal, assassinations and suicides, and won the Critic’s Award at Venice Film Festival. It is a milestone in samurai cinema and regarded as one of renowned director Kobayashi’s foremost accomplishments.
