Radiance

About the movie

Misako is a passionate writer of film versions for the visually impaired. At a screening, she meets Nakamori, an older photographer who is slowly losing his eyesight. Misako soon discovers Nakamori’s photographs, who will strangely bring her back to her past. Together, they will learn to see the radiant world that was invisible to her eyes.
Writer-director Naomi Kawase barely needs any further introduction. In Cannes she has through the years been awarded with the Golden Coach, the Golden Camera and the Jury’s Grand Prize. Radiance, which competed for the Golden Palm 2017 became Kawase’s fifth film to do so, as she has proven herself one of the foremost directors of today’s Japan.
“Frequently bathed in honeyed magic-hour light, with a pleasingly diffuse and gauzy quality, the film looks terrific" – Screen Daily
“A gentle, thoughtful and reflective movie.” – The Guardian
“Delicate and gentle, touching and open-hearted.” – London Evening Standard
