About the movie

A monastery high in the mountains of the Maghreb in Algeria, some time in the 90s… Eight French Christian monks live in harmony with their Muslim brothers. But violence and terror are slowly taking hold of the region. Despite the ever-growing danger that surrounds them, the monks’ resolve to stay – whatever the cost – grows stronger day by day…
The Director Xavier Beauvois won the Jury Prize at Cannes (Don’t Forget You’re Going to Die) and the Label Europa Prize at Venice Film Festival (The Young Lieutenant) and have been nominated both for the Golden Palm at Cannes and the Golden Lion at Venice.
The phenomenal cast includes, among others, Lambert Wilson (The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions) who have received five Cesar nominations and Michael Lonsdale (Munich, Ronin) who have two Cesar nominations and one BAFTA nomination.
