Director Toby travels to Spain to make a commercial, on the same location where he made a film about Don Quixote 10 years earlier. When Toby meets his old lead actor, it turns out that the actor is still in character as the windmill-slaying knight. Not only is the actor still in character, but he is convinced that he is the real Don Quixote and that Toby is his comrade Sancho Panza. Their meeting is the start of a time-travelling adventure, where reality and fiction merge as one.
The highly anticipated film has taken director and writer Terry Gilliams more than 25 years to accomplish due to renowned setbacks, making its premiere in 2018 Cannes film festival a triumph. Starring Academy Award nominee Adam Driver (BlackKklansman), Jonathan Pryce (The Wife) and Stellan Skarsgård (Mamma Mia!), The Man Who Killed Don Quixote has been a wait worthwhile.
