God’s Own Country

About the movie

God’s Own Country is a thoughtful story about sheep-farmer Johnny and his journey to self-discovery. He spends his days hard at work and he tries to repress his somber feelings with alcohol and sexual encounters in the evenings. When a Romanian season worker, Gheorghe, is hired to help at the farm, against Johnny’s will, he treats him with coldness and cruelty. But as times goes by their connection grows stronger. They fall into an intense and passionate relationship that makes Johnny question his decisions in life.
In director Francis Lee debut feature he beautifully portraits the inner journey of a simple man from the stunning and gustily countryside. Leading actor Josh O’Connor have recently appeared in ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’ and ‘The Riot Club’. ‘God’s Own Country’ is a story that go beyond the topic of rural homophobia and explores unspoken love and tolerance in a frank treatment of gay sexuality. Official selection at Sundance Film Festival 2017.
