Agnès Varda, whose unique cinematic vision since the 50s has earned her a dedicated following, and photographer JR, boasting over a million Instagram followers, have more in common than one might imagine. They share a lifelong passion for images and how they are created, displayed, and shared. Faces Places documents their heartwarming journey through rural France and the unlikely, tender friendship they formed along the making of this unique film.
Varda is the multiple award-winning director behind films such as ‘Cleo From 5 to 7’, ‘Vagabond’, ‘The Beaches of Agnès’ and ‘The Gleaners and I’. JR is the anonymous artist who in the last 15 years has changed the playing field for public art, stating that the street is “the largest art gallery in the world”. In ‘Faces Places’, the two join forces for an artistic, yet earthy and soulful voyage. The film was awarded with the Golden Eye in Cannes, the prize for Best Documentary.
