The Clan tells the true story of the Puccio family, who in the 80’s raised terror in Buenos Aires by kidnapping and murdering multiple people. The Puccios are a regular, typical middle class-family in the most traditional parts of the Argentinean capital. Their patriarch, Arquímedes, however aspires to reach the upper class. After the war of the Malvinas is over and Arquímedes’ service is no longer needed by the State intelligence bureau, he is drawn to crime and will stop at nothing to reach his family goal.
Director Pablo Trapero has previously made movies receiving awards at no less than 19 film festivals. His latest feature The Clan is a critically praised story of greed, family and the fine line between love and cruelty. It won him the Silver Lion for Best Director at Venice Film Festival and the Platform Prize at Toronto International Film Festival, and is Argentina’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. It also broke the record for best opening weekend of any Argentinean film in history, surpassing the previous record-holder Academy Award-nominee Wild Tales.
