Scotty Bowers landed in Hollywood after World War II and became advisor and lover to many of Hollywood’s greatest male and female stars. He realized the actors’ fear of societal shunning and career suicide for their sexual preferences and became a pimp who would cater to the sexual appetites of celebrities for decades.
Based on Bowers’ best-selling memoir, which revealed a dramatic, alternate history of Hollywood’s Golden Age and its icons, the documentary premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. Directed by Matt Tyrnauer (Valentino: The Last Emperor, Studio 54), the film reveals the studio PR machines who promoted their stars as wholesome and monogamous, while Bowers was secretly fulfilling the true desires of many of them.
