Documentary
Filmed with extraordinary intimacy for over a decade, Quest is a moving portrait of a regular Philadelphia family. Christopher “Quest” and his wife Christine’a “Ma Quest” Rainey open the door to their home music studio, a sanctuary for those in their society with nowhere else to go. Though living under the poverty line, the Raineys have a lot to give in terms of warmth, friendship and tender care. When a stray bullet wounds their youngest daughter, the film shows the family's strength in the face of adversity and their dedication to being a force for good in their community.
For more than ten years, director Jonathan Olshefski has filmed and befriended the Quest family, and their portrait is one of the most intimate real-life depictions ever on film. This slice of life follows the Raineys through the daily life of a family in a 21st century country in turmoil, and how good people’s deeds can make an impact.
