On the journey through Chemnitz, also known as Karl Marx City, director Petra Epperlein searches for answers regarding her father’s mysterious suicide in 1999 while also being on the path to finding out his connection to the Stasi, the East Germany’s secret police. A visually striking and personal investigation of the represseive communist regime while we follow a family in search for long awaited answers.
Director duo Petra Epperlein and Michael Tucker have discovered real spy footage taken by the Stasi officers which they use in their documentary “Karl Marx City” together with interviews and other archive footage from the time in Germany during the old GDR regime.
