Julia Ducournau Back in Cannes – ALPHA Gets World Premiere in Competition

French director Julia Ducournau returns to the Croisette with Alpha, which was officially announced today as part of the main competition at the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Ducournau became only the second woman in history to receive the Palme d’Or, when her previous film Titane won in Cannes in 2021. NonStop Entertainment is the Nordic distributor.

“After The Substance at last year’s Cannes Festival, we’re now looking forward to the premiere of Julia Ducournau’s groundbreaking ALPHA in the main competition – it’s going to be fantastic!” says Jakob Abrahamsson, CEO of NonStop Entertainment.

Julia Ducournau’s groundbreaking Titane sparked a wave of female-led body horror when it shook the Croisette and won the Palme d’Or at its world premiere in 2021. Now, Ducournau continues to push the boundaries of cinematic art. Alpha centers on 11-year-old Alpha in a fictional 1980s city inspired by New York. An epidemic is spreading, along with rumors about who might be infected.

Alpha stars Golshifteh Farahani (Paterson, About Elly), Tahar Rahim (A Prophet), and Emma Mackey (Sex Education, Barbie).
